That's Just Not Me
02:51
|
|||
I made your acquaintance in September of 1993
And over a decade later you are starting to get to me
Although your company is nothing short of habit-forming
You’re starting to feel less and less like a quest and more like a cavity
You said you didn’t want complexity and so I’m easy
You said you wanted to be nice so I’ll pretend you please me
You said you didn’t want to fight so I’ll just be appeasing
I’ll be whatever you want me to be
So if you want a painting baby I’ll be Van Gogh
And if you want the moon baby we can go
And if you want some fashion sense then I’ll be shallow
But that’s just not me
You’ve got me, I’m your yo-yo, yes you’ve got me hung up on your string
Yet in spite of all your spells I must compel you to give up the whole thing
You said you didn’t want complexity and so I’m easy
You said you wanted to be nice so I’ll pretend you please me
You said you didn’t want to fight so I’ll just be appeasing
I’ll be whatever you want me to be
So if you want a painting baby I’ll be Van Gogh
And if you want the moon baby we can go
And if you want some fashion sense then I’ll be shallow
But that’s just not me

Changing of Turns
02:51
|
|||
Did I see you over there?
Or was it just a glassy glare
I swear I had looked everywhere
But now I found you
Come out come out, wherever you are
She was hiding behind that door ajar
And now you’ve got to count oh so far
As I hide from you
It’s your turn to find me
I find it’s pretty hard to hide
With a girl whose pupils stretch oh so wide
So I’m gonna have to try to squeeze inside
The dryer
Nope, the closet’s not where I creep
And nope I’m not in the place where I sleep
And no the basement’s far too deep,
Look higher!
It’s your turn to find me

Oh My Sophie
03:32
|
|||
There’s this quote I’ve got stashed away somewhere
I marked it in a book that I’ve misplaced as well
It details the situation we’ve been facing to a tee
And naturally I want to see if maybe
When you hear it it just might ring a bell
Oh my Sophie
You’ve got to try to empathize
I’m just trying to show we
Have more in common than you realize
More than any of those guys who can’t use their eyes
For anything but chasing flies
Well I’ve seen my share of Ashley Wilkes,
Charles Hamiltons and Frank Kennedys
Though it appears through all the years they’ve come and gone
While I’ve remained it seems quite plain that this notion
Doesn’t impress you, so why does he?
Oh my Sophie
You’ve got to try to empathize
I’m just trying to show we
Have more in common than you realize
More than any of those guys who can’t use their eyes
For anything but chasing flies
Oh my Sophie
You’ve got to try to empathize
I’m just trying to show we
Have more in common than you realize
More than any of those guys who can’t use their eyes
For anything but chasing flies

Deus Ex Mastodon
02:27
|
|||
First dates have never given me panic attacks or anxiety
I’m pretty cool when it comes to keeping a level head
I’ve gotten used to the social butterflies that used to bother me
But lately I’ve been bothered by a species that the ice age left for dead
We could go up to the zoo
We could go to a movie too
Whatever we want to do
The mastodon will be there too again!
Metropolitan Museum of History is the place she could have kissed me
But I caught a distraction in the corner of my eye
She stops to laugh at the look on my face but stops short as I turn to run away
And if she doesn’t call again I can’t say I’ll be surprised.
We could go up to the zoo
We could go to a movie too
Whatever we want to do
The mastodon will be there too
We could go up to the zoo
We could go to a movie too
Whatever we want to do
The mastodon will be there too again!

Head In the Sand
02:41
|
|||
I think you might find you may enjoy your time if you open up
And when the general perception of your most recent direction falls through again, try to keep your chin up
Sleep while you can, you’ve got a big day to plan
But there’s not much to do when everyone’s got their head in the sand
Twenty years ago you never ever thought you’d go broke from gas
But that’s not in your control, better to focus on the full fledged days ahead, they’re gonna be a blast.
Sleep while you can, you’ve got a big day to plan
But there’s not much to do when everyone’s got their head in the sand.

The Right Now Rules
03:26
|
|||
I know sometimes it’s hard to see how people can be such ghouls
But it’s plain to me that these are the right now rules
And even though we may disagree
If we can play nice maybe we can let this argument rest in peace
I think it’s a shame in a sense I’m to blame for forgetting something as sweet as your name
But if we can stop this fight I’ll sleep easier tonight
You know I can tell you get upset when my opinion is fact
And your pride might swell from a lack of counterattack
But hold on, hold on baby hold on
If we can be civil maybe we can get back to laughing before too long
I think it’s a shame in a sense I’m to blame for forgetting something as sweet as your name
But if we can stop this fight I’ll sleep easier tonight

Silver Tongued Salesman
04:27
|
|||
He comes at you like a cat waiting for dinner
With a briefcase under his arm
He takes his time to make up his mind
Then slowly pulls the alarm
So you’re stuck with choices now
He just grins from ear to ear
He opens his case and slowly displays
All his high tech shiny new gear
From bluetooths to cameras he’s got it all
At the special price of X.99
The words come in waves, “See how much you’ll save!”
At the expense of ethics he’ll throw you a silver line
